Food Tour Around Brighton Beach

Food is a big part of Brighton Beach as seen by the number of storefronts along Brighton. Primarily all the foods sold in food stops such as Cafe Glechik and M & I International were brought to Brighton Beach by the culture of its residents. Although the Russian culture is still very much represented in the restaurants and food, “American” stores and restaurants are
popping up in Brighton Beach.

An awning for a restaurant called “Moscow: Russia on the Beach” advertised hot dogs and pizza, which (although they are of German and Italian origins, respectively) are considered “American” foods.
Despite the lack of advertised “Russian” foods (judging by the large group of men eagerly conversing in Russian and eating) this was a place where residents felt at home. In Brighton Beach, food serves as a uniting source bringing people and cultures together.
