How has the makeup of Bensonhurst changed?

At first there was a trickle of Soviet immigrants to Bensonhurst: 377 from 1983 to 1989. That number shot up to 17,950 immigrants between 1990 and 1994. During the years 1995 and 1996, 29,228 immigrants from the former Soviet Union settled in Bensonhurst. In 2007-2011, 6,071 Russians settled in Bensonhurst, 4,697 Ukrainians, 1,790 Belarusians, and 1,036 Uzbeks.

*The American Community Survey from which this data originated, clusters Bensonhurst with other areas such as the Parkville, Bay Ridge, and Bath Beach area.  To get the settlement number, we added all the numbers associated with Bensonhurst. The number may not be entirely accurate as people may have been counted twice, but is does give a good approximation on the Soviet Union immigration figure.
