New York is known for its diversity. It is here, that people from all over the world meet and converge in one place. Jimmy Carter once described New York, “We become not a melting pot but a beautiful mosaic. Different people, different beliefs, different yearnings, different hopes, different dreams.” Bensonhurst, Brooklyn is just one neighborhood in this vast, ever-evolving state that truly depicts New York as a “glittering mosaic”. As a class, we delved into the rich history of Bensonhurst, and our group primarily focused on Latinos in Bensonhurst.

Katherine Miranda and Elizabeth Howard are freshmen at Brooklyn College in the Macaulay Honors Program, class of 2019.
