Children were  able to play many games together, including some games such as stickball, racquetball, and Chinese handball, as well as indoor hockey when the weather was not good.  A past Bensonhurst resident and member of the Sephardic Jewish community, Abie Tawil, “Papa” to his grandchildren, grew up playing these games with his friends in Bensonhurst.  Norma Shamosh recalls how, as a family outing, she would sometimes go to a store where televisions were being sold and watch programs through the glass.  Now, Shamosh, known to her grandchildren as “Grandma Shamosh,” looks back at her life and reminisces how she and the community lived simply and managed to enjoy themselves with what they had.
