Pictured far in the background of this remarkable photo is FDR Drive, one of the many places you can find yourself in the middle of gridlock traffic if you decide to drive through Manhattan. Congestion has become a more and more apparent problem in our city. This problem is part of what my group is planning to tackle in our final presentation. One idea the city can implement is congestion pricing, meaning that at certain peak hours, there is a small tax on cars passing through the city. Other cities have done it before, namely London and Singapore. It’s an interesting idea because if it were to be implemented, there could be certain exceptions, especially drivers operating eco-friendly vehicles and so it could help with congestion and pollution.
FDR traffic is hands down some of the worst I’ve ever been exposed too. I absolutely hate everything about it. In a recent article I actually read that they’re going to be charging for certain zones in the city to reduce congestion. Maybe this can remove some traffic? Who knows! Great post.
