Futures Conference Reaction

From what I’ve observed all the students participating in Futures of New York conference were sufficiently prepared to talk about interesting topics. The faculty observing us, however, asked everyone very through industry-specific questions, forgetting that they were observing students and not experts of the field. The students presenting (including our own group) gracefully answered these questions as thoroughly as they could. Their questions still show us that our topic was interesting and the audience was involved. Our group actually was perfectly on time with our presentation with only 5 seconds left. There was one presentation I enjoyed most. It discussed the flaws of the current NYC waste disposal and how the people employed to pick up the garbage are often hurt by the contents of the garbage bags. It was something I’ve never heard of before as not many people consider the waste collector job to be worth discussing.  It is an important issue that we shouldn’t ignore. More efforts should be made into educating the public on proper waste disposal and DSNY has to put more efforts into ensuring their workers’ safety.

Unfortunate regarding faculty questions. Good lesson learned about DSNY (which you just taught me).
