As we discussed in our last class, New York is an enormous city and continues to grow exponentially. With hundreds of thousands of new people constantly moving to the city, one has to ask, where the hell will these people live? Pictured above are a few of Manhattan’s many public housing or “project” buildings. These apartments already have very long waiting lists as their rents are relatively low for Manhattan real estate however they are notorious for being dirty with high crime rates. While many of the people who can afford to move to New York are higher income and likely will live somewhere else, it is not unreasonable to ask how the increase in population will affect the current infrastructure we have in place for lower-income families.
