My NYC “skyline”

A peek outside my window

When tourists think of NYC, the first thing they think of is the beautiful skyline. When I think of NYC, the first thing that comes to mind is the congestion. After living in NYC for 15 years, it is safe to say that my description is more accurate.

I live in a 3-story apartment on the second floor, just above a restaurant. Behind my apartment is a taller apartment that completely blocks out my view. While I do get some sunlight, I pretty much have the lights turned on throughout the day. AS the population continues to grow, the congestion will only get worst. Real estate is expanding vertically and horizontally across the city, leaving many residents like myself with little to no sunlight. What’s worst is that there’s a loud ventilator right outside my window. There are at least 3 restaurants every block in my neighborhood and I can imagine how much noise pollution this brings to my neighborhood. So when people think about the skylines that we have, it’s simply half of the story. Many of us are living in crowded areas that are worsening as I write this.
