It’s a small white, hand-drum shaped headdress, with a colorful waterfall of small feathers on strings attached to all sides except for the front.
What do you see going on in this work of art? Is there a story depicted?
Perhaps the feathers represent a young girls journey into womanhood, growing beautiful feathers as birds do before they take flight for the first time.
What different visual elements (ie: line, color, light, proportions, scale, composition, media type etc.) do you notice, and how do they help you make sense of the artwork?
The headdress is small, appropriate for a little girl, and the feathers are bright and colorful. They help us understand that this is for a young girl.
What choices do you think the museum made about the object’s display?
The room itself felt unfinished; the plaque was separated front when display case, and it was in the room with one other object, with blank walls.
