This is a r white women in a blue gown holding some sort of berry with leaves. She has a toddler in her lap who is wearing silk material. The background captures a ruch aesthetic and contemporary household. In the back there is a bowl of the same fruit and a paiting and more silk material. Both the mother and child ar assumed to be well fed.

What do you see going on in this work of art? Is there a story depicted?

It depicts a women enticing her todler with fruit. She can be assumed to be the child’s mother.

What different visual elements (ie: line, color, light, proportions, scale, composition, media type etc.) do you notice, and how do they help you make sense of the artwork?

It is a large oil canvas. The colors are very light. There is a stark contrast between the subject which is painted in light and bright colors while the foreground remains in the shadows. This is similar to the roccoco style where the color palette is soft and pastel-filled.

What choices do you think the museum made about the object’s display?

It is all the same time period which is the revolutionary war period. They are all from wealthy backgrounds. The frame is fancy.
