A sitting woman with a crown on her knees, breastfeeding a well-mannered male baby. The sculpture is tiny in size.

What do you see going on in this work of art? Is there a story depicted?

It represents how woman back then were seen in society, as birth-givers and how some things don’t change. That having a son brings acknowledgment to women and the reason for his existence is to be king.

What different visual elements (ie: line, color, light, proportions, scale, composition, media type etc.) do you notice, and how do they help you make sense of the artwork?

We see that it is made out of steel, it’s rusted. It’s tiny in size and was probably crafted through melting metal.

What choices do you think the museum made about the object’s display?

They wanted to include many aspects of Egyptian history and not one narrative of men and the clothes they wore. Perhaps giving more significance to the little/normal things.
