Therese Raquin: Music

I had high expectations for this play. They certainly didn’t disappoint. However, I did not feel that the music choices were as effective as they could be.

Throughout the play, there was minimal music accompaniment. The only places where the music was heard was during the transitions between the scenes. I thought this was a good choice, however I felt that the music was not adequate for the occasion.

I felt that the music was far too dark for the transition. I understand that they chose to use such music to illustrate the darkness of the play, if the acting did not demonstrate this effectively enough. However, I felt there was a contrast between some of the scenes and the music that was too great. It stood out and did not effectively blend the scenes together. If this was done intentionally, then they executed it flawlessly. However, I believe they should have done it slightly differently.
