Carnegie Hall

The mood in a quartet plays a very important role. It is a combination of many other things that go into making the production. The way all the instruments sounds together, the way the atmosphere is set up, the teamwork that is portrayed through the music all combine to make the mood. Music has a tendency to have a mood that works for every situation. People know that there are different songs that they play depending on the different moods that their in. Their sad songs, happy songs, meaningful songs etc.

In this quartet the first part had a light and joyful sound to it. It made the atmosphere happy and had an upbeat sound to it. The later parts had a more menacing sound. Sounding as if someone was chasing someone, or running away. There was a dangerous tone to it, where everyone felt either unsure or suspenseful. There was a sort of chase going on between the violins, viola, and cello. As opposed to the first light and airy piece, the ones that followed seemed more energetic, like there was more action taking place.

Setting the mood is very important in all performances. The audience should be able to sense what is going on because of the tone the music is giving. This quartet gave an excellent feel to the role that the music plays in portraying the mood of what is going on. It was extremely enjoyable.
