Nandini, this PBS report on the Barefoot College in India will be of interest to you. It involves social entrepreneurship and a successful method to educating women who have no prior education to become solar technicians in their home villages.
Look at it here: http://www.pbs.org/newshour/indepth_coverage/social_issues/social_ent/

Hi Professor Quinby! Thanks for that link! It was an amazing venture undertaken by the Barefoot College. It’s quite impressive and inspirational to observe what one person can do to help and improve conditions of women in rural towns all around the developing countries. The knowledge they gain from this college is of practical use, which I think is the key. Formal education is well and good but an hands- on approach gives these women experience along with ideas to take back home.

Nandini,
I found this too. It came up on Google Adsense (nonsense) when I was looking for information on my Indian Study Aboard Program. http://www.webmd.com/infertility-and-reproduction/features/womb-rent-surrogate-mothers-india
By the way, I don’t know if you’d be interested in a film/documentary type study aboard in Southern India but it could be a way to supplement or maybe even apply your research? Its a long shot but I’ll leave the link for the site, I think they’re still taking applications.
