The phrase “Only in America” applies to things or events that only occur in America. In the past I’d assume that when people used the phrase, it would relate to opportunities and freedom. To me it also would apply to opportunities and freedom, but I would associate it with more negative things as well. I would associate it with stupidity, laziness, and wastefulness as well. The people of the past and the present are different and therefore the image of Americans and America have changed. Instead of being hardworking and striving for a better life like our immigrant predecessors, people have begun to feel a sense of entitlement being an American. The change in people has caused the phrase “Only in America” to change for the worse.
