The Chelsea, a landmark on Manhattan’s West 23rd Street, has for decades has housed many bohemians – poets, painters and punks who lived and died in its rooms. Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin all once called it home.This is a picture of Hotel Chelsea, also just called The Chelsea, where Hans and Rachel lived when they came to New York. The Chelsea is one of the focal places of the novel. When Rachel leaves to go back to London with her son, she leaves Hans alone to dwell with the strange people in The Chelsea. This is where Hans makes his lobby and elevator acquaintances and befriends the cross dressing angel.
