Only in America

I’ve never once heard the phrase “only in America” used positively. Only in America would a 30-second commercial cost $4 million for airtime. Only in America would 70% of the population be overweight. Only in America would there be a $900 billion total outstanding student loan. Everyone might praise the diversity in America, but the diversity was a product of people seeking “a better life” in America. But how many will reach the goal where only one can stand, if millions of others are competing? Only in America would undocumented workers be condemned for “stealing jobs” when undocumented workers are the ones who do the jobs that Americans wouldn’t. Americans want a career, not a low-paying job. I’ve never felt pride in being American when I hear the phrase “only in America.” If anything, I feel a sense of unity because it’s as if everyone has come together to find the faults in America.
