Hey! So my name is Mark Solter. I was born in New York City, but my father was born in the Republic of Moldova, and my mother in Kiev, Ukraine. I’ve spent the vast majority of my life in the relatively insular neighborhood of Brighton Beach often clashing with the rigid cultural values of the residents but now live in Harlem which is a great change of pace!
Technically I’m undeclared, but after a series of revelations I’ve decided to major in philosophy. I have absolutely no idea what I want to do when I grow up but I’m sure that I’ll figure it out along the way. Despite my lack of certainty about my future, I have numerous academic interests ranging from quantum physics to political anthropology. I’ve spent a lot of time interning for the Bill de Blasio campaign and am currently part of the Pied Filmmakers Collective. Outside of academia, I’m very into nature, comedy, and traveling.
I guess all that’s left to say is that I’m really excited to learn more about the city that I love!
