What scares me about computers? I think the better question would be what doesn’t scare me about computers. Think about it: they’re super powerful pieces of technology that, though we’ve become utterly reliant on them, the average person doesn’t have a clue as to how they function. They’re capable of doing computations that even humans cannot do, at a speed humans cannot match. Just think what they could accomplish were they to attain sentience! But then again…

 

Internet technology has evolved rapidly, and IT education is scrambling to keep up. How do we ensure people are safe on the Internet? How do we ensure they are responsible? Perhaps what scares me more than computers themselves are the people using them. The world might just be a better place were Multivac to be in charge.
