SF foreseeing the future

SF is predicting the direction the future is headed with technology. We watch SF movies, such as Terminator and I, Robot, and we watch them without any thought that this will be the future. When science makes a discovery that is not expected, the public will find any reason to disregard the discovery, and to label it as not true. The same can be applied to SF, especially in the sub-genre dealing with technology and the future. I believe it is possible for technology to take the place of humans. We are labeling televisions and cellphones as “smart”. How is it that an inanimate object can be called smart? Soon enough, humans will make their own doomsday by creating a technology with a powerful AI that can “learn”, similar to what Eugene mentioned in class, and be truly smart, just like Multivac.
