Meet the Artist- Connection through photography

I arrived to the meet the artist event exhausted, after not realizing Central Park would be in between the 6 train and the Macaulay Building and having to speed walk there so that I could make it before the speaker began. I made it just in time. When the photographer began speaking I was surprised to hear his photographs would be based on Hurricane Katrina. I remember the incident well, but as many times as I've read about it or seen the destructive pictures in the news, I never thought about it as intimately as I did throughout the presentation.

Language and Photography

Camera Lucida could probably lead to a million topics to discuss (maybe even more?)

When I opened my book I saw a little not on the corner of p 76 that said "What is meaning in terms of language" After re-reading page 76, I realize that note was clearly not for that page, but it is nonetheless a very significant topic that I cannot stop thinking about.

The Changing World

When I first read Camera Lucida, I read through it quickly, taking in each point as "elements of photography". However, after discussing it in class and re-reading some of it, I have a completely different perspective of this book.

Manipulating art

When I arrived home Thursday after class my mother asked me to upload some pictures from a recent family birthday party. Since my computer did not have any of the pictures from my camera yet I decided I would upload everything. After I did, i discovered the "edit" option of iphoto. It pretty much had standard features, such as contrast, exposure, black and white, negative, etc; things that almost all computers come with these days. Nonetheless I thought it was pretty interesting and started manipulating different pictures.

Power of photography

Walking into the International Center of Photagraphy, I was immediately entranced by the photographs. I tried to keep my focus on what the curator was saying during the intro, but my eyes immediately jumped to the photographs already on the wall. The eyes, the images of the woman with the animals, I wanted to just stop and stare at everything, but I didnt think of myself as actually analyzing anything or retrieving some message. It wasn't until the John Wood exhibit that I realized the power of photography as art.
