The event was a success! This was different from any other event we've attended because we were the featured artists. It was fun to see the photographs that my classmates presented in class be put on display. I was also looking for my photograph in the collection and was excited when I spotted it. The pictures were categorized based on subject. I was surprised to see so many similiar photographs. There were many pictures featuring New York City nightlife. The bright lights, tall buildings, and beautiful landscape was a good depiction of the neighborhood I relate to.

Who is Timothy Walter Burton? Primarily known as a filmmaker, he is an artist who taps into the fantasy world. His works know no boundaries. Stepping into the creature's mouth, the entrance to his exhibit at the MoMA, I was taken into the Burton universe. There were sculptures, drawings, and paintings that illustrate his talent as an artist beyond the big screen. There were little alien creature sculptures with many eyes. There was a boy with nails in his eyes. It was a bit gruesome-looking, but I couldn't avert my gaze. This was true of many of the pieces at the exhibit.

On Tuesday, when most of us have quite a large chunk of free time in between classes, Natasha, Stephanie, Aimee, Laura, Jerrica, and I went on a trip to the MoMA. Who would have thought that the MoMA would be closed on Tuesdays? We were all shocked by the sign that was planted outside the museum indicating that it was not open. I was definitly disappointed because I had hoped to see the Tim Burton exhibit that everyone was raving about. I caught a glimpse of it during our class tour of the MoMA. I told myself that I would return to see the exhibit.

The class went on a tour of the cubism exhibit at the MoMA. We looked at several different paintings by Pablo Picasso. One that stuck with me was "Girl with a Mandolin." It's an oil painting made by Picasso in the early 1900s in Paris.

It's difficult if not impossible to walk past Doris Freedman Plaza without stopping or looking back at the two coloful monumental pieces situated at the center of the entrance to the walkway. There is a hotdog vendor right beside them, and another statue across the street. They are surrounded by trees, buildings, cars, and people all around.
