Well, what to say.  His work was pretty straight forward.  I mean some of them really didn’t have much deep meaning I guess.  It seemed very literal in terms of relating everything to the theme of “Altered States”.  While it was enlightening, being this is my first ever visit to a gallery, I wouldn’t exactly recommend it enthusiastically though.

What I do want to see is the Kara Walker exhibition.  Based on what the two groups said and the pamphlet that I saw, I’d say the political aspect of her art is interesting.  It is also a considerable contrast from Zhang Huan’s stuff because he wasn’t trying to make any radical political statements.

Also, I’m planning to visit the Frick Collection or maybe a photography gallery next week, perhaps on the weekend.  Any one interested?

P.S.  What day are we going to go to Snapshot NYC?  We need to rsvp.

Well, allow me to comment on Stephen Ma’s observations about the exhibition at the Asia Society. I can sense why you wouldn’t recommend it. Is it the disturbing nature of the exhibition? Not in a Kara Walker-like fashion, but in its “strange”, yet bold way of displaying one’s body?

I would have gone to the Asia Society, but I would not have dodged the discomforting fact that the basis of my decision to go see it would have hastily been, “I’m Asian. So I’ll go to the Asia Society”. Here’s a curious question for all of you Asian who went to the exhibition: did you find any sense of Asian culture rooted in this gallery? Did it feel like it any way? hehe
