Yes, this is after we’ve completed our performing arts chapter, but I just wanted to end a summarizing note about that part of our class, and maybe share a bit of what I wrote in that essay.
Wow, we did it- we’ve all seen at least one ballet, opera, and play… I feel so cultured! Seriously, experiencing live action amongst a crowd of other similarly-enthusiastic viewers was a great feeling. I didn’t always enjoy what I saw, but I appreciated the hard work being put in to everything.
If I had to compare all three of our common events, I’d say the play was my least favorite, the ballet was my absolute favorite (though not really the second one, and the opera was in the mid-range for me.
From my individual outings, I’d have to say 365 Days, 365 Plays was mid-range as well. (Leaning more towards the negative side, but certain aspects of it, such as a variety of companies made me appreciate the different interpretations to it) The ballet rehearsal was the more interesting, probably because Christopher Wheeldon narrated the performance incredibly well.
I think I’ve really grown to appreciate performing arts, and I just feel so smart whenever I open up my copy of the Daily News or New York Post each morning, and actually recognize the names of shows and theatres! I’ve watched more live action than I have watched TV and there is no comparison. Of course, I still love TV, but seeing a more genuine form of acting is definitely valued.
