Welcome to the pages of this project discussing culture. What do we mean when we talk about culture? Obviously, the topic is enormously broad and culture can be used to identify almost every aspect of human life.
When talking about culture here, several different aspects will be emphasized. Aside from background information like history and ethnicity, areas we consider important to a study of culture include food, holidays, and entertainment. This is a personal approach, however, and it must be remembered that culture is not limited to these areas.
With this in mind, we will turn to the culture of Jewish immigrants in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and Mexicans today. With this in mind, we will look at aspects fo Jewish and Mexican immigrant culture in the U.S., more specifically more specifically, New York City. Although the traditions of these people retained some of their distinctiveness, overall American customs were also incorporated, resulting in a special Americanized immigrant culture.
