Restaurants of Sunset Park

From Welcome to Chinatown NYC

Jump to: navigation, search

"Chinese Food" is somewhat of an oxymoron here in America, where Chinese food is anything but Chinese. Nonetheless, food made by Chinese people, perhaps a more accurate albeit tongue-in-cheek name for it, has remained popular in the United States. 8th Avenue may appear to be comprised entirely of restaurants, but we will focus on the few of them that are Zagat rated.

Contents

Pacificana

Pacificana is a Dim Sum restaurant located on 55th Street and 8th Avenue. Dim Sum is a traditional style of Chinese cuisine which is comprised of several traditional dishes served in very small portions. Usually, this food is washed down with oolong tea. [1]

Pacificana was established in 2006 and serves Cantonese food as well as Dim Sum. According to reviewers on the Zagat survey, the restaurant's service is "fast and furious" and "heaven on a cart."

Nyonya

Nyonya is located on 53rd street and 8th Avenue, and it specializes in Malaysian cuisine. It claims to have fused Chinese cuisine with Malaysian cuisine and thus facilitated a marriage between the Nyonya (women) and Baba (men). [2] For more information on Nonya, click here

Nyonya recieved mixed reviews on the Zagat survey. For more details, see this site

Other Cuisines

While the cuisine on 8th Avenue is predominantly Chinese, the presence of other cuisines show the presence of the various cultures that also reside in Sunset Park. The largest subgroup on 8th Avenue is the Hispanic community that is centered around 4th Avenue and 2nd Avenue.
