There are two exhibitions which are practically free:
1) The Studio Museum in Harlem is hosting an exhibit of Jacob Lawrence and his work. This particular exhibit is known as the “Migration Series” which documents the African American migration from the south to the north during the Great Depression. The exhibit is visual so only paintings are available for viewing. Also it is in Harlem, which offers a great chance to visit and see a different side of the city before its gone….
2) This option entails ONLY feminist art from the mid 1960’s to the ’80s. The exhibition is being held by P.S.1 in Queens and is hosting an impresive collection of over 100 artists. You are bound to find something either pleasing, intriguing or upsetting. Media include:painting, sculpture, photography, video and “performance art”.
