The venues that I recommend for the class to visit are the American Museum of the Moving Image and the Queens Museum of Art. The Museum of the Moving Image located in Astoria, Queens depicts the art, history, technique and technology of film, television, and digital media. An interesting exhibition at this museum is its core exhibition, Behind the Screen. The Behind the Screen exhibition depicts the many processes such as the recording of image and sounds, special effects, and the costume design involved in producing a film or television show. One particular aspect of this exhibition also deals with music in films. I believe that this would be interesting for us to look at primarily because in a previous class we discussed the importance of music in films. Admission to the museum is $7.50 with student I.D however; we can get in for free with our cultural passports. The museum hours are Wednesdays - Thursdays: 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m, Fridays: 11:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. (Free after 4:00 p.m.),
and Saturdays - Sundays: 11:00 a.m. - 6:30 p.m.

The Queens Museum of Art is also an interesting museum. This museum located in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, Queens has an exhibition, Generation 1.5 that I find particularly interesting. Generation 1.5 is an exhibition of the work of eight artists who immigrated to the United States in their teens. If you were wondering, the “term “generation 1.5″ is used in some communities to describe those who are neither adult immigrants nor American born – the in-between generation of people who moved from one country to another between the ages of 12 and 18” (QMA website). The works of these artists focus on issues that affect the 1.5 generation such as immigration, cultural dislocation and memory, and acceptance. I believe that a majority of individuals in our class can relate to this exhibition or find it of great relevance to their lives. The hours for this museum are Wednesday - Friday: 10:00am - 5:00pm and Saturday -Sunday: 12:00pm - 5:00pm. Admission is by suggested donation.
