Part of our CHC curriculum included the analysis and discussion of photographic images. This included the discussion of Sontag and a class visit to the ICP. I believe that we can support our earlier discussion of the impact of images by visiting the SolomanR.GuggenheimMuseum to see an exhibition called Foto: Modernity in Central Europe, 1918-1945. This wonderful exhibition presents its audience with a wonderful array of photographs taken during the time period in between the two world wars and shows how the social and political changes that were taking place in Europe during this time period shaped its modern culture. The topics that the photographs explore include photomontage, war, life and leisure as well as surrealism that was later to take place. Examining these photographs allows one to understand how culturally connected Europe once was and demonstrates significant achievement in photography. The fact that this museum is included in our cultural passport also means that admission is free.             Although we’ve discussed photograph in class, we haven’t at all discussed moving images. This is why I propose that we go to the Museum of the Moving Image and explore the exhibition called “Digital Play”. This exhibition portrays video game based art by specifically focusing on a movement that started it Japan that came up with the idea of making video games less violent and more music and dance orientated. This exhibition also discusses the evolution of video game production since the 1980’s and the impact that it has as a form of art. Digital Imaging is also emphasized. I think that visiting this museum will be a great experience for all as they look at something they do for leisure at an artistic point of view. This museum is also on the back of our cultural passport and as a result it is also free.
