New York Historical Society
At the New York Historical Society there is an exhibition called “Here is New York: Remembering 9/11.” The exhibition is essentially a photographic series that focuses on the history of New York City, the events of 9/11 and the way the people of New York responded to tragedy. I think that the exhibition will be interesting because we did spend some time discussing 9/11 in class and it will reiterate the ideas we discussed in a new way. Additionally, the exhibition is said to contrast apathy with compassion, which I think will be intriguing.
Asia Society
At the Asia Society there is an ongoing exhibition of Zhang Huan’s “Altered States.” The “Altered States” exhibition shows the development Huan’s work in Beijing, New York and Shanghai over the past 15 years. Huan is originally a performance artist with the majority of his works focusing on “physical endurance.” Within this exhibition, his work is done in photography, sculpture and painting. Huan is said to be very controversial and I think that it would be interesting to see the way in which a performance artist conveys his meaning into photos, sculptures and paint.
