Mina, To whom are these questions going to be directed?

I'd suggest you ease into this by asking some general background questions about the person--where from? what do they do? How long in US? What have been their experiences here? Then move gradually into questions about conflict--as it is I think this is both abrupt and confrontational, and not likely to get a response. You can ask people about how the JH area has changed? What have they noticed that is different now? Are there more Muslims than there used to be? Who are they? Where do they come from?

You need to distinguish between "culture" and "religion". Many South Asians, both Hindu and Muslim, emphasize their shared culture, but are also uneasy with each other's religions, partly due to recent political events in India.
