Join us, as we explore the realm of HIV and dive into some real cool data! We will look into the different routes & rates of transmission of the virus, and see how they vary across the sexes. We will see if our hypotheses truly hold up.
Evaluating ways of transmission and transmission rates of HIV across sex, with males at a higher risk:
The main questions we had were: are males or females at a higher risk of transmitting
HIV, and in what ways is each sex transmitting them? We hypothesized that males were at a higher risk but did not specify in what ways they transmitted them. We also predicted that sexual contact, especially male to male, will be a leading cause of HIV cases. The data we collected showed that our hypothesis had been confirmed, also providing us with methods of transmission. It became clear that the most cases of HIV were transmitted through male to male sexual contact (MMSC). Other ways of transmission differed with sex. For example, females are at a much higher risk of perinatal transmission than males, while males have more cases with an unknown transmission origin.
