Translating Paintings in the Time of Corona
According to The New York Times, “Art Recreation Is the Only Good Instagram Challenge.” Macaulay Honor students from Seminar I, “The Arts in NYC,” rose to the challenge and recreated famous paintings using their imagination, their pets, and sometimes their relatives. As visiting museums to experience art in person was not an option for many of us over the past year, confinement didn’t stop our students from engaging creatively with art. While many of their recreations for our Translating Paintings in the Time of Corona series were motivated by purely aesthetic values, others highlight current social and gender issues.
