Picking up Your Loaner Video Camera from MHC

As we discussed in class last week, each of you is responsible for going up to MHC over the next few weeks to pick up your loaner video camera.  You will need this equipment to complete your projects this semester.

In order to get your video camera, each student will need to schedule an appointment with Mary Carney, MHC’s Laptoop Coordinator and A/V Custodian, in advance.  Students can come in groups, but you should not just drop by unannounced.

Mary will be available on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 11am until 6:30pm, and on Sundays from 3 to 7:30pm.  Make sure to contact her ahead of time to set up an appointment to get your camera.

It is MHC policy that if you do not return your camera before the end of the semester, you will not pass your Seminar 1 course (you will sign paperwork and get all the necessary information when you meet with Mary to check out your camera).  These cameras are on loan from MHC, so you should make sure to take care of them and then return them in a timely fashion.

Jill’s Office Hours & New Baruch ITFs ePortfolio

The lovely Baruch ITFs (there are five of us this year!) have started a Macaulay ITFs at Baruch ePortfolio.  On this site, you can learn a bit about each of us, view all of our office hours, check out some cool “tips and tricks” for using ePortfolios, and even ask a question in our Discussion Forum.

Here’s a direct link to my Office Hours schedule and sign-up.  I’ll be adding slots a few weeks at a time, so check back for my availability later in the semester.  I do hope you all will stop by soon to discuss your work or just chat for a bit 🙂

As you’ll see from the above site, I’ll be holding office hours tomorrow (Monday, 9/19) from 2-5pm in the Weinstein Honors Lounge, 17 Lexington Avenue, Room 903.  Feel free to sign up for an slot to come see me (though you can always drop by as well!).  If I don’t see you there, I’ll see you during our class visit to the 9/11 Memorial later in the evening.

Business on Broadway?

To all you future businessmen and women, the hit musical on Broadway How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying is something to consider watching. The protagonist, J. Pierrepont Finch (Daniel Radcliffe), starts out at the bottom of the World-Wide Wicket Company as a window cleaner. Aiming high, Finch follows the book “How to Succeed in Business” in hopes to reach the top of the company. Upon reaching the top as Vice President of advertising, Finch’s business practices become questionable in morality, possibly threatening his career.

This musical tells the tale many men/women in business, or even in life in general, aim for – becoming successful. Along this journey to success, people come across obstacles that confront their morals and conscious. “Do you go against your ideals to reach a higher point in life?” is something I ask myself as a reminder that one stray decision could change my life for the worse in a flash. So, if you’re aiming high in business, or just in life, I recommend this musical to you.

When: This musical is on through next year, July 1, 2012. Specific days (in case of no performance or even additional performances) can be found here.

Where: Al Hirschfeld Theater
302 West 45 st. (between 8th ave. and 9th ave.)

Tickets: For a wallet friendly price of $30, buy tickets on the day of the performance at the Box Office (on sale when they open).

Brave Souls

These will be the people I am looking out for at the 9/11 Memorial:

I’d like to set this up by mentioning how many stories we hear about people who were suffering in the building and miraculous escapes. There are hardly any accounts from those on board the dreaded flight 11, 175, 77, and 93. The 9/11 issue of New York Magazine tells the courageous account of Betty Ong.

Here is the audio of her phone call.

Another touching story: A Phone Call from the 105th floor
