Introduction

Me in Disney World over the summer

Hey everyone! My name is Keith Stegner. I was born on Long Island, where most of my dad’s family lives, but my family moved upstate when I was little. I grew up in a town about half an hour from Poughkeepsie. I had come here to New York City quite a few times throughout my life, sometimes for school, sometimes with family, and sometimes with friends.

When it came time to choose a college, I knew I wanted to come here because I love the city and it is just the right distance so I can live away from home but can easily go back whenever I want. After spending my life in the country, I knew I wanted to get away to the city, where things are a bit busier and there are fewer trees and more buildings. I am living at the EHS New Yorker Residence, which I moved into just before the hurricane came.

I like computers as well as TV and movies. A few of my favorite shows are Modern Family, Bones, Family Guy, and South Park, although there are many more. I can never think of a favorite movie because there are too many for me to pick just one or even a few. I am a huge fan of The Sims. I have every game in the Sims 2 series and all but one in the first series, although I haven’t bought any Sims 3 games. I also like to take pictures and I took a graphic design class in high school that I really enjoyed.

I love to travel. So far the only other country I’ve been to is England (unless you count about half an hour in Canada at Niagara Falls) but I hope to add many more to that list in the future. However, I have traveled quite a bit along the east coast. Also, I went to Disney World for the fifth time this summer. Most of my relatives on my mom’s side are in the Disney Vacation Club and go almost every year so we join them every few years.

So far I have been enjoying my college experience and I can’t wait to get to know everyone better!

A brief intro…

Hey guys, I hope you all had a good experience in your first week at Baruch. My name is Quan and I am an international student who moved to New York 3 years ago from Cincinnati OH and before that from Hanoi, Vietnam. My experience here in the US has been pleasant so far, though not without its ups and downs. I have learned how to play the violin and picked up hip-hop dancing here in New York. For 3 years, I have made so many friends, both older and younger than me, and they have helped me familiarize with my new life in the city and taught me many things that I would have never known had I stay in Vietnam. I am hoping to get to know all of you fellow Macaulay scholars and to learn as much as I can from this class and during my journey here at Baruch. See you all in class!!

Howdy to you too

Hello everybody, my name is Steven Sklyarevskiy and I was born and raised in NewYork. I spent my early years growing up in Brooklyn and then moved to Staten Island. I always hesitate before I tell someone I’m from Staten Island because I have noticed that people seem to have certain preconceived notions regarding it (thank you Jersey Shore). The island is mainly comprised of Italians and Russians, myself being the latter I might add, and it’s a strange place to say the least. I’ve always thought of Staten Island as its own microcosm; anytime you step out of your house you are more than likely to see someone you know, one train and a few buses connect the entire island, and it is covered with forests that although have more than their fair share of garbage can almost be described as serene. There are very few things to do when you want to hang out with your friends so Manhattan is frequented often. Going to school in the city is strange because even though I’ve been to Manhattan plenty, being a part of a gigantic beehive is much different than just soliciting it for its honey every once in a while. I walk down the streets bright-eyed like a tourist and take it all in every single day. I don’t know if eventually I’ll end up walking around, headphones in my ears, hands in my pockets, and staring at my shoes like the majority of commuting New Yorkers but I hope that through this class I’ll be able to keep that spark going as long as possible.

About Me

Hi guys, my name is Devon Khan and the first thing that I feel i should share is that I’m Guyanese.  The reason being that in my previous school only a handful of people knew Guyana was a country, so I would constantly have to explain to people that Guyana was a country between Suriname and Venezuela and that people there speak English, but have accents.  While I take pride in being Guyanese, I was actually born in New York and have lived here all my life.  I’ll do the rest of this assignment in bullet points because I feel they’re easier to read.

  • I love basketball.  I enjoy all types of sports, but basketball is the one sport I play with any consistency.  I spent every night of my senior year watching NBA games, so I’m kinda sad that there won’t be a season this year.  My favorite team is the New York Knicks and the Oklahoma City Thunder.
  • My facial hair has become influential on my confidence.  You will rarely ever see me with a completely shaven face because  feel more comfortable with facial hair.
  • I love chocolate.  I feel chocolate can cure anything, except sore throats (I hate getting a sore throat)
  • I need more Baruch friends

A Little About Myself

Hey guys, my name is Isadore Betesh. I was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY and have lived there my entire life. i am very excited to get to know each and every one of you over the course of the semester. During my time at Baruch I plan on majoring in entrepreneurship and I am really excited to further my knowledge in the business field.

One of my major hobbies is both playing and watching sports. I enjoy almost every sport from hockey to baseball to basketball and football. My favorite teams are the Rangers, Jets, Yankees, and Knicks. You can always find me either watching a game or shooting hoops outside with my friends. I would love to study abroad during my time here at Baruch College. I believe that it would be a great experience for me to see what the world has to offer and to further my knowledge concerning other cultures. Another one of my passions is giving back to the community. I enjoy doing community service and taking part in many community events. I am involved in community service almost every night, whether it be visiting the sick, delivering food packages to the less fortunate, or tutoring those who cannot afford help. I believe that this service not only benefits those I am helping but makes me a better person as well and I feel that by doing so I am helping make the world a better and safer place.

A little bit o’ me

Hi my name is Serge Sorokin. I was born in a little country in eastern Europe called Latvia and moved to the United States with my parents when I was 3. I went back to Latvia this summer for a month with a friend and we had the most amazing time exploring, meeting people, and partying! (Taking advantage of the 18 year old drinking age.) =]

I dislike cold weather but winter is my favorite time of year because I get to snowboard. Snowboarding is a giant part of my life and my dream is to travel to Europe to ride the Alps and to New Zealand to heli-ski.

A little about me

Hey everyone my name is Michael Zaslowsky. I was born and raised out on Long Island. Although I grew  up very close to the city I didn’t spend that much time there as a kid. I am very much looking forward to spending many days and nights chilling in the city. My passion is sports. I love the Yankees and Knicks but my favorite team is NY Giants and just following football in general. I came to Baruch learn business although i don’t yet know what type of business I am interested in. I love to travel and hope that one day I get to see every country in the world. I can’t wait to to get to know all of you.

Recent New Yorker

Hello everyone, my name is Abhinaya. I moved to New York exactly 2 years ago last week. Before that I lived in India where I was born. This makes my life very interesting as every day I notice the numerous differences between the cultures here and back in India. At the same time, I come across many similarities that seem to suggest that people around the world are the same in the ways that really count.

At Times Square on New Year’s Eve!!

My family moved around quite a bit during my childhood due to my father’s job; this has given me a passion for languages and I am always learning a new language (my current project being French). I’m also a veritable bibliophile. I can’t imagine life without my paperbacks. I love to engage in charged, albeit good humored, debates about everything under the sun and was actually on the Debate Team at my old school in India. Lastly, I hope to be a lawyer in the future.

I’ll admit, I never imagined that I would commute to college, rather seeing myself at a residential campus in a small liberal arts college somewhere. However I have been pleasantly surprised by the interesting group of people at Baruch and college is proving to be quite challenging in a good way. So….that’s me! I hope to get to know you all better in the next four years and hopefully we will have lots of fun together while gaining a great education. All the Best!  🙂

Getting to know you~ Getting to know all about you~

Nice to meet you

Hi everyone! My name is Sharon Lin. I was born in New York and live in Queens. I plan on majoring in business, but I’m not sure what I want to do in the future yet. Hopefully my time at Baruch will help me find my path.

Main things to know about me:
~ I love food, except for fish and some cheese due to bad experiences, but I especially love sweets (mostly cake).
~ I love exploring new places and trying new things. I have many countries I want to visit like Hong Kong, South Korea, Italy, France, etc. I hope I can visit those places and experience their culture, but first I’d like to get to know New York better first!
~ I like watching Asian dramas, mostly Chinese and Korean. However, I like watching American shows as well. (Feel free to talk to me about this 😀 )
