Urban Spaces

Harnik, Peter. Urban Green: Innovative Parks for Resurgent Cities. Washington, DC: Island, 2010. Print.

In Urban Green, Peter Harnik presents ways to redevelop the notion of green spaces/parks in cities. He argues that parks are important for creating a more sociable, ecological, and aesthetic environment. Space in cities are limited and therefore, it is necessary to find a new approach to creating green space. Some of the solutions he gives are taking spaces such as rooftops, rail trails, and pedestrian streets and turning them into places of greenery.

This book offers more information on the development of public spaces to create more livable communities. The author’s approach to urban development is innovative. He calls for change in the way we view cities. This book is important in relation to my project because it offers another perspective on the notion of what makes a community better and how green spaces can achieve this.
