Setting the Tone

Clips from this video were taken downtown, in Union Square and Washington Square park. While often overlooked, the sounds and vibrations of buskers and their instruments often “set the tone” for their surroundings. This video aims to highlight this such music that we’re often oblivious to.

64th St.

18th avenue was a commercial area thriving on small businesses. Unfortunately due to rampant consumerism a lot of these businesses were run out by larger corporations. In the video you can see some remnants of the old neighborhood. You also see the presence of chain stores that are competing with the remaining businesses. Recently a Target has been placed in the neighborhood. Yet all this goes largely unnoticed by a majority of people who do not even realize the risk it poses to their day to day life. Most would prefer to get a cheap meal at a chain restaurant than to support a family working their restaurant. I consider it a miracle that the area still has a good number of small businesses but I am not sure how much longer it will be like that.

sanctuary

This video represents some of the things I do and surround myself with when I am in need of self-care. Most of these shots were taken in Prospect Park near my house. One technique that stood out to me from Kahlil’s video was the use of different sounds to convey a certain mood. I tried to replicate that by using the sounds I recorded, instead of using music. I feel that the ambient sounds in my video help to create a soothing atmosphere.

Fashion of 5th Ave

My video is of the vibrant and artistic fashion scene of 5th Avenue. With some of the most well known and popular designers/brands around, 5th Ave is always thriving with shoppers from all over the world ready to get their hands on the newest fashion trends. I tried to capture the colorful and stimulating aesthetics that one can find while walking down the street as well as the street fashion and the overall feeling of confidence from strutting down this fashion center.

Latina in the U.S.

For my video I decided to interview my friend, Julisa, about how she felt being a Latina in the U.S. We’ve often talked about what it means to us to be from two different cultures and in this video she talks about some difficulties she’s faced being in this situation. I decided to do this topic because I think it’s important to acknowledge the struggle of feeling like you don’t fit in, in either of your cultures and having an “identity crisis.” It’s also important to acknowledge that that’s okay and that itself is who you are.

Redundancy

This video is meant to show a glimpse of how I view my school life, in its simple redundancy (ew corny-use-of-the-title-in-the-description alert). Specifically, this video is intended to portray the (abridged) way I look at and approach studenthood, with special guest appearances by Miri Lieber. Although my outfit may be slightly different every time you see it, the experience remains mostly the same, day in and day out.
