Hey this is my my video for class! Throughout the video my eyes tend to wander instead of actually looking at the camera since I felt pretty awkward staring into the green light. The experience I describe with art is probably one of many that I’ve experience but it’s one of the first that has really moved me. Hope you guys enjoy it!

Hi Connie. As a musician as well, I truly understand your appreciation to the hard work you put into playing the flute. I myself wanted to quit playing the guitar when I first started, and to hear that you continued your music endeavors with the flute after quitting the piano is really an inspiration. It’s also great that you appreciated the sounds of all the instruments coming together. The composition of music with a variety of instruments is not just listening to each instrument at the same time. Its’s hearing a single work of art unfold, and it probably felt great to be a part of.
I can really relate to you and how you were moved by your whole orchestra and the way you all sounded when you were playing together. I was my high school choir and even though at times I wanted to quit, in the end I was impressed by the way that we all sounded together. When you were describing the way all of you sounded together, I thought back to my experiences and it shows how art can form so many connections!
I also feel that music is a cooperative art, especially in an orchestra setting. The combination of all the instruments can truly be a moving experience. Understanding that all the members worked together in order to create something so beautiful is a unique opportunity that is wonderful to share.
Hi Connie! I had the same exact thoughts as you in choosing Macaulay over the other schools! In the long-term, the benefits of being a student Macaulay at Brooklyn College seem to outweigh those of out-of-state schools.
I cannot even begin to express my love for orchestral music and just the general function of an orchestra. I totally understand what you mean as being part of an orchestra has been one of your most powerful experiences with art. I have started becoming an orchestral musician in junior high school as well. While I was in a string orchestra at the very beginning of my orchestral career, when I joined my first symphony orchestra (Brooklyn Boroughwide Orchestra), the first time I heard all of us play together as an ensemble was just mind-blowing. I couldn’t believe it, how majestic the amalgamation of all the different instruments and timbres were, I almost wanted to cry from sheer happiness, not to be over-dramatic. Even as a piano performance major here at Brooklyn College, I am still in love with the power an orchestra can bring. In my video, I stated that my most powerful moment with music was one of my many orchestral performances. Though my main focus is piano for now, I cannot wait to join the orchestra here. I am yearning to be part of a magical artistic experience once again. Do you plan to continue playing flute on the side? We could be in orchestra together! 🙂
