Questions for Y’all

Here are the two midterm questions that I forgot to post earlier:

1. What makes art “art”? How could each of us consider specific types/works more of a work of “art”  than others, and does that disrupt the essence of art?

2. How does art impact our lives? How could this knowledge be used by an artist in the creation of his art? Moreover, should the artist consider the impact his art will have on others when creating it?

1- On the first day of class prof. said that art is something difficult done well. I understand how this could be said about art but I don’t always agree. I don’t think hanging up a shovel is all that difficult but painting a mural could be more complex to certain individuals. So, I think art is anything that makes you feel any type of emotion. I think the ‘better’ types of art may either evoke more emotion or a wider range of emotions to people which is why they are more popular. I don’t think having some more talked about than others really disrupts it. I feel like if all art was weighed the same, they’d lose its value. Each one is special in its own way.

I think that art impacts everyone differently. Because of this, there’s no way an artist would be able to know the impact his art will have on other people. No matter what, there will always be a group that doesn’t understand the complexity or the simplicity behind his art. And then there will always be a group that loves and enjoys every single piece the artist creates. However, I think the artist has a specific impact that he wants to make with every artwork he creates. This is what gives the artwork meaning and it is also what makes it one-of-a-kind.
