Creating and Editing a Video with your Laptop

Open IMovie, which should be located in your Applications Folder. If this is the first time you are opening this program, I HIGHLY recommend that you watch the tutorial. It is a good reminder of how to use the basic functions in IMovie. You can also click on “Help” to find and play this tutorial at any point.

To record your video, click on the video camera icon button in the middle of the screen. A new window will open up showing the view from the camera built into your computer. Click on “Capture” at the bottom of the screen. You will be prompted to name the video file you are about to make. Once you have done so, click “Capture” and begin recording. When you are done, click “stop”.

To begin editing your video post, click “done”. Go to the menu at the top of the page and click on “File” and then “New Project”. You can then begin to choose sections of your video that you want to include. Drag and drop sections of the video into the New Project window. You can add photographs, texts, and music as well as fades and transitions from one section to the next using the icons at the right in the middle of the page. Drag and drop these media to place them into your video project. Click the play button to review your video. Once you are satisfied with your video, click “share” at the top of the page. Click on “YouTube” and follow the prompts for uploading your video. You can use the class YouTube account.  The email is vellon2011@gmail.com and the password is seminar2. Once the video is uploaded to YouTube, you can embed it in a post to the class website.

Uploading a Video to the Class Blog:

If this is a video you made, first upload it to YouTube.

In IMovie, click on Share, and select the YouTube option and then follow the instructions to directly upload.  If you want to use the class YouTube account, the email is vellon2011@gmail.com and the password is seminar2.

OR

Click on Share, and then Export, which will then allow you to save the file on your hard drive. If you go this route, you can then select the file via the browser when you are on YouTube. Click on “Upload” on the upper-right side of the page, and follow the instructions.

Once the video is uploaded, OR if it is an existing YouTube video that you want to share with the class, play it. In the box underneath the video, you’ll see a box that says “Share”, click this and copy the URL for the video.

Log in to the blog, and create a New Post. Paste the URL into the post. This will now show up as just video, so if you want a title or any other information to appear with your film, type that in before/after the URL.
