Demographics

Demography may seem like a series of charts and maps, but it is more than that. It represents the world that you and I are born into. This study includes statistical representations of population density, race, education, housing, and gender.

This page is dedicated to the demographics of East Harlem. Demographic data is especially crucial in an area such as East Harlem. This area has been a site of dramatic ethnic and economic transformation over the last century.

East Harlem or Manhattan Community District 11, is currently comprised of 25 census tracts; 156.02, 158.02, 160.02, 162, 164, 166, 168, 170, 172.01, 172.02, 174.01, 174.02, 178, 180, 182, 184, 188, 192, 194, 196, 198, 202, 204, 206, 210, and 240. Data for this area has been compiled through combining the statistics for each of these census tracts. However, these census tracts were not used prior to the 1950 Census report.
