Bonjour Mes Amis!

It’s been a while! Well, I can finally post at free will now, because I have finished all my schoolwork (that is, until summer session begins)!

So here’s an update on my school and life:

1. I was supposed to upload a post on Macaulay’s 4th Annual Arts Night and I completely neglected it for almost a month. It will be coming soon though because later is still better than never.

2. Classes: If you read my earlier post about my registration difficulties, here’s an update. I gave in and will be taking seminar on Friday so that I can take both the art class on architecture from WWII – present and a French class. Sometimes you have to lose some to win some. But yeah, no big deal. I don’t mind the Friday class that much. It’ll make me more productive on Fridays. As for taking two art classes with Japanese, unfortunately, that did not work out. The credit limit is 18.5, but my schedule with 6 classes would be 19 (since Japanese is a 4-credit course). And I would have had to fill out an application a semester ahead asking for permission to go over the credit limit. Or try to rush it in before the class fills up. So, I decided I’ll fill out the form for Spring 2013.

3. I feel in such an elegant, garden-strolling mood right now. If you’re curious, I am listening to this song as I write:

4. Expect posts on my: semester of studying poetry, visit to the Eldridge Street Synagogue Museum, exploration of Bryant Park (and my Peopling in New York seminar’s website + my contribution), and my first Yankees game. If they don’t pop up after a month, HOUND ME because I am clearly procrastinating though I said I would not.

5. My first year in college has almost wrapped up (just one more “final” on Monday) and I must say it was a success! I made wonderful friends, had amazing professors, participated in lots of school activities (more than what I did my whole high school years combined!), and achieved terrific grades! Not to toot my horn, but I am really proud of myself. Applying to colleges made me realize how inactive I was during high school. As a result, that realization pushed me to work harder and strive for more during this first year. And I WILL continue with this attitude my whole life. Sometimes it takes an event like this to wake you up.

6. I also want to share my accomplishment with my readers: last week, I received two awards from the Modern Language Department for French! One was a departmental award, of which the department gave me a book in French about the feminine side of god. Très intéressant! The other was a scholarship from a donor: the Moliere Award (for outstanding French by a non-native French speaker)! I am really happy! I worked hard in French all year, but I never expected to receive any awards from it! I really love how the Mod Lang. Dept. recognizes hard-working students at its Annual Prize Day. Congrats to everyone! Foreign languages are not easy to learn, but they open your eyes to a world of culture and possibilities.

7. Summer vacation is here and I plan to make the most of it by attempting to go to as many (FREE) events and places as possible. I will be uploading a summer to-do list soon and I will document my adventures as I cross off goals on my list. This will be fun!

8. I told my mama that I wanted to create a segment on this site called “Cooking with Mama,” showcasing my mama’s everyday meals. (And a separate segment focusing on the odd deformities that sometimes inhibit her food.) But she said that everyone would laugh at her cooking because it’s nothing spectacular. Bah humbug. I shall try to convince her again. Or create an even cooler idea to showcase more photos of things other than art (museums). I want a broader range of discussion! Any suggestions?

9. With all this said, I want to end my note with something interesting that I found a while back: how to make Google Translate beatbox. This is really old news, but I still think it’s cool. Oh Google, you never cease to amaze me with your whimsical tricks!

Side Note: It is always so difficult to find a feature image for posts like these for photos don’t make much sense! So for this post, I have borrowed an image from ohbythewayblog.blogspot.com of the Gardens at Marqueyssac. It’s enchanting and matches my current mood of garden-strolling (as stated earlier in the post). And I also realized that it fits with the title of post because both the garden and my title are French. Haha!
