Art in the 21st Century

when thinking about 21st century art, the concept of “modern” comes to mind. there’s “modern art” in terms of paintings, sculptures, dance, exhibitions — pretty much everything has moved on to become more modern. along with it, I think, is the expansion of what art is and how it can be used to make a statement (that’s why a lot of modern art is political and controversial).

the artist in the 21st century is one who uses his skill or craft to make a statement. if he/she says something greater than just what is at the surface of the piece, if he/she gets people excited or angry, if he/she does something that makes an audience think, then the artist has done his/her job.
