Winchevsky was born in Yanova, Lithuania in 1856. He orginally wrote in Hebrew, but then started to move to Yiddish. He became active in the Jewish Socialist Movement and was even arrested in Germany because of it. He helped found the first socialist Jewish periodical: Der Poylisher Yidl,(The Polish Jew). In 1884 he became the Leader of the Jewish Socialist movement in England. His poems were often transferred into songs. Not very purely Jewish content in his writing. His writing was very ideological. as opposed to Rosenfeld who focused on the audience of the Jewish immigrant his works were more abstract and didn’t necessarily focus on just the Jewish struggles in America. He died in 1932.
