Edelstadt was born in Kaluga, Russia in 1866. he was actually educated in Russian literature and didn’t know Yiddish until he came to the United States. He published Russian poems at the age of 12. he immigrated to NY in 1882.at the age of 16. he became active in developing the underground anarchist movement, and was an editor for the Yiddish Anarchist magazine Di Freie Arbeiter Stimmer (The Free Voice of Labor). The themes of her poems centered around revolution . He was all about uprising. His poems were almost like chants. and through the words of his poems you could really see the daily struggle of the Jewish immigrants of New York. He died at the age of 36 in the Denver Sanitarium because of Tuberculosis in 1902.
