Smooth and Silky

It was mesmerizing to see women dance with these long pieces of fabric. Loie Fuller was an innovator who incorporated fabric, motion and light into modern dance. The constant swirling of the fabric made these images and shapes. It was astonishing how these people moved so swiftly and it seemed as if it were easy. It definitely takes effort, skill, and stamina to move that way.  Time lapse dance is a modern dance company founded by Jody Sperling. She helped continue this style of dancing and I appreciated it. I wish she would have done the performance live in front of us or did a tiny demonstration. It would have been really great if she brought these fabrics in and taught us a little move. I am glad I was introduced to this modern dance.

I liked your honest response. I was also mesmerized by the dancing. I thought it was phenomenal. I also think it would have been cool if she could have “performed live” for us. Maybe we could have danced, too.

I also wish that Jodi got up and did a little dance for us. It would have certainly made the presentation a lot less boring! I enjoyed watching this mode of dance, and i appreciated the depth that we watched it in!

I agree with you, the presentation was soooooo boring. She should have demonstrated.. Videos don’t do this type of dance justice.

I agree, I wish I was able to see the dance live. I think it would have more of an impact on me and it would make the presentation a little less boring. Plus, the outfits were so interesting that I would love to see them in person!

I somewhat agree that the women dancing with the flowing fabric was mesmerizing. But I also found her presentation to be exceptionally boring because we were mostly just staring at pictures of people in skirts. I found it weird that a presentation about dance had no dancing. But that’s just one man’s opinion.

I agree with Michael that it was a lecture really when I thought it would be a performance instead. I would have liked to see her dance it as well. I also wanted to the performance we saw on the video to kind of live up to the way she was describing the Loie Fuller performance.
