“Memories”

(Get it? The title is ironic…)

This is a beautiful, short film about a man’s life, all told in flashback. It is a very  gutsy move in filmography to not use the spoken word in a video, and “Memories” did just that. It relied instead on the beautiful soundtrack provided through the song Runalong, by Silence to give over the story.  It portrays an elderly man who walks around a drab, gray city finding bits of film that portray his joyful youth  in sepia montages. This use of montage and flashbacks combined with the melancholy music really hits something deep. The most admirable thing to me is that they made it tell a whole story in context, without a single word said. The fragility of memory and cruelty of time have never been seen in such a visceral way.
