Fashion Isn’t Modern.

While these items may not appear to be similar at first glance, they are both part of a story that spans many generations, cultures, and continents. Athletic wear did not always exist- as evidenced by the formalistic and traditional elements that still remain in baseball uniforms. However, pioneers like Adi Dassler created special garments specifically for athletes to wear and such fashion quickly spread to the streetwear scene because the public sought to emulate their heroes of sport and also because they wanted more comfortable, practical everyday outfits. Certain patterns and crests are now world-famous because of the power of globalization. The above jersey is Pele’s, perhaps the greatest footballer ever to have lived; he is an international icon of excellence. My FC Barcelona jersey is recognized in any city I am in, whether it be New York, San Diego, London, or New Delhi. They reflect humanity’s tradition of creating sport as a leisure activity- a way to admire the achievements our bodies are able to attain.
