I never really was into the idea of shoes like many of my peers, but my view of them has changed in a way that reflects my artistic curiosity.
When I visited the MOMA I stumbled upon these original Nike Air Force 1 shoes. The shoes were crafted in a time, 1964, where excessive colors on shoes didn’t reflect the norms, especially for men. These shoes were meant to become a ‘status’ object, because of their vibrant colors, which displayed a person’s superiority over others. The 1964 shoes took on a retro style that was unprecedented. Ever since the original 1964 shoes, more than 2,000 new versions of colorful shoes have hit the market, including mine seen in the bottom picture.
