Jose Vergara

I am Jose Vergara, and like my colleagues on this site, a student in the Macaulay Honors College at Hunter. My focus in this course is the language and literature of Mexicans and Chicanos.

I grew up in Park Slope, Brooklyn to Chilean born parents. My paternal grandmother is from a long line of Americans of German descent who have been in the United States since before it was a country, and my ancestors from my paternal Grandfather include 16th century Spanish conquistadors, Mapuche indians, and a collage of europeans who have immigrated to Chile in the last five centuries.

I do not have a main course of study, but I am choosing between Computer Science and everything else. I love to read Latin American literature, watch dramatic films, attend theatre, play music, and keep up with my favorite television series. My favorite authors include Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Roberto Bolano, and Mario Vargas Llosa. I play bass in the Brooklyn based band Anachronista, and I can play guitar, ukulele, and double bass as well.
